KUALA LUMPUR, June 7 (Bernama) -- Smiths Detection has received a TSL Advanced Technology (AT-2) Tier II certification from the U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for its HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX -- a computed tomography (CT) checkpoint scanner.
"This CTiX represents the future of checkpoint security and we are moving towards completing the TSA certification process so that it can be chosen by airports and partners in the Americas and throughout the world, " said vice-president, Technology & Product Development, Cameron Ritchie.
The CTiX scanner helps airport operators minimise improvement costs since it is easily incorporated into existing checkpoint lanes. Its latest innovation has been designed to enhance airport screening, efficiency and passenger experience at the checkpoint, a statement said.
The scanner examines baggage contents from every angle and generate precise 3D images. TSA is still determining the checkpoint procedures although TSA has tested the CTiX capabilities.
The CTiX is a key component of Smiths Detection's advanced integrated screening solutions which includes the iLane -- a sophisticated automated checkpoint lane which automatically separates suspicious belongings which have been screened.
Smiths Detection is a global leader in threat detection and screening technologies for military, air transportation, homeland security and emergency response markets. More information at www.smithsdetection.com.
