DALLAS, Nov 14 (Bernama-BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Mary Kay Ash Foundation®, a champion of women’s health innovation for nearly three decades, announced a $500,000 grant to Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation to accelerate a pioneering triple-negative breast cancer clinical trial and advance early detection initiatives that shift care from reactive to proactive at the newly established Texas Cancer Interception Institute.

The trial explores the potential of weight-loss medications to reduce recurrence risk in overweight breast cancer patients.
  • The second part is a multi-year gift to the Texas Cancer Interception Institute, which aims to detect and intercept cancer at its earliest stages – when it is most treatable, will help shift women’s cancer narratives from “I have cancer,” to “I have cancer, but we caught it early.” Designed to be deployed on a broad scale, the program aims to revolutionize early detection and intervention strategies for better breast cancer survivorship and beyond.
This latest commitment underscores a shared mission between the two organizations: to invest in transformative cancer research that improves outcomes and brings us closer to curing cancers that disproportionately affect women. Over the past two decades, the Mary Kay Ash Foundation® has contributed $1.3 million to the Baylor Scott & White Dallas Foundation, reflecting an enduring alliance rooted in scientific discovery and compassion.

“The Mary Kay Ash Foundation remains committed to finding cures for cancers affecting women – we are championing for our mothers, daughters, sisters, and all the women in our lives,” said Michael Lunceford, President, Mary Kay Ash Foundation Board of Directors. “This grant represents a powerful next step in redefining cancer care – moving from a reactive nature to early detection and viable treatment options – with the goal of a long, healthy life after cancer. We are honored to stand alongside Baylor Scott & White in shaping the future of women’s health.”

AM BEST AFFIRMS FUBON VIETNAM'S CREDIT RATINGS WITH STABLE OUTLOOK

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- AM Best has affirmed the financial strength rating of B++ (Good), the long-term issuer credit rating of “bbb+” (Good) and the Vietnam National Scale Rating (NSR) of aaa.VN (Exceptional) of Fubon Insurance Vietnam Co Ltd (Fubon Vietnam), with all credit ratings (ratings) carrying a stable outlook.

The global credit rating agency in a statement said the ratings reflected Fubon Vietnam’s strong balance sheet strength, adequate operating performance, limited business profile and appropriate enterprise risk management.

AM Best added that the assessment also incorporates rating enhancement from its parent company, Taiwan-based Fubon Insurance Co Ltd (Fubon Insurance), a leading non-life insurer in its domestic market.

The insurer’s balance sheet strength is supported by risk-adjusted capitalisation that is expected to remain at the strongest level over the medium term, based on Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio. Other positive factors include low underwriting leverage and a conservative investment portfolio comprising cash and term deposits.

Fubon Vietnam is also considered to have good financial flexibility through the support of its parent company, despite its relatively small capital base. AM Best noted that heavy reliance on third-party reinsurance remains an offsetting factor, although counterparty risks are mitigated by reinsurers with generally strong credit quality.

The rating agency assessed the insurer’s operating performance as adequate, with a five-year average return on equity ratio of 6.9 per cent (fiscal year 2020-fiscal year 2024). While underwriting performance weakened in fiscal 2024 due to Typhoon Yagi losses and higher expenses, overall earnings stayed positive on the back of favourable investment income.

Operating results showed improvement in the first nine months of 2025 following portfolio remediation efforts and continued strong investment returns.

Fubon Vietnam maintains a limited business profile as a small non-life insurer in Vietnam, relying heavily on business from Taiwanese corporations in the local market. The company nevertheless benefits from the strong brand recognition of Fubon Insurance.

The ratings continue to reflect the support, integration and strategic importance of Fubon Vietnam within the Fubon Insurance group as it expands its presence in Southeast Asia.

INTERSYSTEMS LAUNCHES HEALTHSHARE AI ASSISTANT TO STREAMLINE CLINICAL WORKFLOWS

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- InterSystems, a creative data technology provider powering more than one billion health records worldwide, has launched the InterSystems HealthShare AI Assistant, a generative artificial intelligence (AI) tool designed to help healthcare professionals access and interpret patient information more efficiently.

Built on the InterSystems HealthShare Unified Care Record (UCR), the AI Assistant features a conversational interface that allows clinicians, case managers and administrators to securely query and summarise complex health records using natural language prompts.

InterSystems head of global healthcare solutions, Don Woodlock said the company aimed to provide healthcare professionals with a faster and safer way to retrieve information directly within existing workflows, reducing cognitive burden and improving efficiency.

Meanwhile, Healthix chief executive officer, Todd Rogow said the AI Assistant enables clinicians to instantly generate validated summaries from years of records, offering a complete view of a patient’s medical history at the point of care.

The system consolidates information from thousands of clinical data sources and applies generative AI to deliver relevant insights in familiar, standardised formats, enabling faster access to patient data and critical findings, according to a statement.

Among its key features are a conversational chat interface for clinical questions, pre-built and custom prompts for tailored use, source traceability for transparency, and seamless integration within the HealthShare Clinical Viewer. The platform also incorporates role-based access controls and full audit tracking to ensure responsible AI use.

A study with Healthix, one of the largest public health information exchanges in the United States, found that the tool improved clinician workflow, reduced record review time, and provided actionable insights.

HealthShare AI Assistant is now available to HealthShare users in supported regions as part of the broader InterSystems HealthShare suite, which supports data interoperability across more than 80 countries.

Report: Global Biofuels Emit More CO2 Than Fossil Fuels, T&E Warns

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Global biofuels production emits an average of 16 per cent more carbon dioxide (CO2) than the fossil fuels it replaces, according to a new Cerulogy report on behalf of Transport & Environment (T&E).

In a statement, T&E said with demand set to rise by at least 40 per cent by 2030, it has called on world leaders attending COP30 in Brazil to limit the expansion of crop-based biofuels, citing environmental and social concerns.

The higher emissions are largely linked to indirect impacts from farming and deforestation associated with biofuel production. By 2030, biofuels are projected to emit 70 million tonnes (Mt) of CO2 equivalent more than the fossil fuels they replace, comparable to the annual emissions of nearly 30 million diesel vehicles.

Currently, about 32 million hectares of land—roughly the size of Italy—are used for biofuel crops, supplying just four per cent of global transport energy. This area is expected to grow by 60 per cent to 52 million hectares, the size of France, by 2030.

The same land could feed 1.3 billion people, while using only three per cent of that land for solar panels would generate an equivalent amount of energy. Electric vehicles powered by solar energy could cover almost one-third of the current global car fleet.

T&E’s analysis shows that 90 per cent of global biofuel production still relies on food crops, consuming about 150 Mt of corn and 120 Mt of sugarcane and sugar beet in 2023. Around one-fifth of the world’s vegetable oil supply is used for fuel rather than food.

First-generation biofuels also require significant freshwater resources. Driving 100 kilometres on these fuels consumes nearly 3,000 litres of water, compared with just 20 litres for an electric vehicle powered by solar energy.

Brazil is among the fastest-growing biofuel producers, and recent policy changes such as the suspension of the soy moratorium could increase deforestation risks. Canada and India are also set to expand production, while shipping and aviation demand could further drive growth.

T&E called on governments to adopt stricter safeguards against biofuels linked to land clearance and deforestation and to redirect public funds toward electrification, energy efficiency, and truly sustainable alternatives in climate policies.

Saudi Arabia Joins Global Framework for Close-Out Netting

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Nov 11 (Bernama-GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) has published its legal opinions that recognize the enforceability of close-out netting in Saudi Arabia, a move that provides global financial institutions with greater legal certainty when transacting in the Kingdom’s Derivatives Market. The decision follows the Capital Market Authority’s (CMA) issuance of the (Close-out Netting and related Collateral Arrangements Regulation) this year.

Close-out netting allows counterparties in a qualified financial contract to offset their obligations if one party defaults, leaving only a single net payment due. Thus, reducing systemic risk and ensures the orderly settlement of contracts. Additionally, its enforceability determines whether international investors can manage their exposures efficiently.

The CMA regulation that was published establishes a legal recognition of netting and related Financial collateral arrangements where one party is a capital market institution. It also aims to enhance the stability of the financial system and protect investors by ensuring the enforceability of a qualified financial contracts thereby safeguarding the rights of all parties involved.

Mr. Raed Alhumaid, CMA Deputy for Market Institutions, said that the development reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing effort to strengthen the foundations of its financial system. He added, “We welcome ISDA’s legal opinions that recognize the enforceability of close-out netting in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following the issuance of our (Close-out Netting and Related Collateral Arrangements Regulation) this year.”

For international institutions, the recognition of enforceable netting in Saudi Arabia reduces counterparty uncertainty and supports broader participation in the local derivatives markets, creating the legal foundation necessary for market depth and liquidity growth.

It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia’s derivatives market was launched in 2020 with the MT30 Index Futures, followed by single stock futures (SSF) in 2022 and single stock options (SSO) in 2023. These instruments expanded investors’ ability to hedge and manage risk. The enforceable netting framework strengthens this market by ensuring greater legal certainty in derivatives transactions and supporting its continued growth and stability.

The CMA noted in its press release that the regulation includes a set of provisions governing close-out netting and associated collateral arrangements, defines its scope of application and the entities subject to it, and defines qualified financial contracts and transactions that would be exempt from the provisions of the Bankruptcy Law. This step is expected to contribute to enhancing the stability and sustainability of the Kingdom’s financial sector and the overall capital market framework.
