Magnificient Hong Kong Sevens rally for rugby in 44th year

KUALA LUMPUR, April 4 (Bernama) -- In their 44th year, the 2019 Cathay Pacific/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens will gather over 120,000 fans at the Hong Kong Stadium for the seventh leg of the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Beginning April 5, the three-day tournament involves 40 teams from 34 countries – making this the world’s largest congregation of rugby unions in 2019.

The series’ top four finishers will automatically qualify for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.

Hong Kong Tourism Board executive director, Anthony Lau said the board looked forward to welcoming global visitors to enjoy a weekend of non-stop entertainment throughout the city.

On April 5, the Harbourfront will be transformed into a ticketed music festival, featuring incredible acts, including GRAMMY® Award-winning Gwen Stefani.

The Harbourfront will also host the free entry Sevens Central on April 6 and 7, with entertainment for fans of all ages including Hong Kong Sevens live action on big screen, food and drink, live music, giveaways, street performers and more.
