SERDANG, Sept 20 (Bernama) -- The 2016 ASEAN Skills Competition (ASC) which
begins on Friday here is expected to attract more than 100,000 visitors. Department of Skill Development director-general Datuk Dr Pang Chau Leong said the National Skills Carnival and Expo (KEKK) would also be held in conjunction with the ASC with various activities, including skill demonstrations, National Robot Challenge, Try A Skill, career fair and auto show. "Malaysia as the host for the 2016 ASC aims to make this ASC edition as the largest exhibition of skills in the region and is targeting 15 gold medals at the event," he said at a press conference here today. The competition, which will take place from Sept 23-28 at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park in Serdang (MAEPS), is also a platform for ASEAN countries participating in the 2017 World Skills Competition in Abu Dhabi. Pang said 266 youths from ASEAN member countries would participate in the competition in which 25 skills will be contested, among them fashion technology, hairdressing, beauty therapy and culinary skills for youth aged 22 years and below. This is the third time Malaysia is hosting the ASC after 1995 and 2008. At the 2014 ASC, Malaysia won nine gold medals. -- BERNAMA |
